Vinyl stripe painting

I have a 1996 Land Yacht 33. The vinyl stripes are beginning to fade and crack. I was wondering if anyone has had the experience of painting over the old stripes?

What kind of paint did you use?
Preparation for painting? Do the old stripes need to be removed?

Any hints would be appreciated.

I just added a new wood floor from the kitchen to the rear bed room. picture attached.

Thanks in advance.

Nice looking job on the floor!

I'm not sure about the stripe question. Let's throw it back out to the members again. What's the best way to restore stripes?

Definitely remove the old stripes. Enamel may react with the vinyl, or not adhere. The stripes will continue to deteriorate even though painted over. Removing is a pain in the butt, but the result is worth it.

Nice flooring!
Remove vinyl stripe, get all glue off, use an aluminum primer in the area you wish to paint over (Spray paint from Lowes) tape off areas with blue painters tape...wait for paint to dry to add additional colors....accent with pin stripes (from auto paint store). Should outlast the decal stripes. Attached is one I did for my 85 Sovereign 25'.

Good Luck with your project.

Nice floor, I am thinking of doing mine.
I would like to know the blue used on the airstreams.
Is there a color code number.

Restored 31' 1976

When I did my 31' 1976 I found that I could color match the paint at the auto/body shop. I had to do the stripe, lettering, and hub caps. I did not use a primer, but did use a product known as Toluene (not suggested any longer). I used a model air spray with the automotive paint. After letting the blue cure for about a week, I went back and did the pin stripe and such. After all of that cured I put two coats of lacquer. Be sure to tape very well as clean up of errors takes a lot of cotton swaps.
