Time to fess up

OK.....It has been a few years now since the flood damaged new Airstreams were auctioned off.

All the nay sayers out there got their licks in and some of us dove in (pun intended) and invested in some pretty outrageously good deals. Good, that is, if the nay sayers predictions of doom proved wrong.

So.....lets hear from the owners. My guess is that many of the flooded Airstreams are out there doing fine, but the flood damage hidden from the current owners. Then there will be some who might have that mysterious odor or the strange electrical problem.

What flood damaged Airstreams? Would I know if I purchased new from the dealer's lot??

Was this a known batch that people bid on because they were damaged?

Sorry - I have no point of reference. Thanks!

This was the North Carolina (I believe) flood from about four years ago. The dealership had it's entire lot of new Airstreams flooded....really flooded. The auction generated much conversation about the effects of the polluted flood waters. The Airstreams sold cheap....Now would be a good time to find out how things went. I always felt like they would slip into the used market and the new owners would never have a clue.

Who auctioned them off? The insurance company or the dealer?

I would think these should have been scrapped for parts if they were flooded with anything but fresh clean water.

I have read of a brand new fiver being written off by the insurance after the black tank overran from a faulty valve and flooded the lower floor. No questions asked. I will see if I can find the article.

I seem to remember it was a dealership in or near Atlanta.
Our dealership is the only one in North Carolina, and sits at the highest point in our county, so flooding would be impossible, unless it rained 40 days and nights.

At any rate, if those had been cars or trucks, they would have to have been sold and issued a salvage title under Georgia law. Not sure if that applies to travel trailers.

I'd like to know about any still on the road as well. Maybe somebody will show up here with one.

BTW, the last time I was up there was a couple years ago. They were no longer selling Airstreams as of that date. in fact, I'm not sure we have a dealer in Georgia any longer. Sad.

It was Camping World in Woodstock, GA. They are no longer a dealer, and it is true there isn't any Airstream dealer in all of GA.

One person here on the forum bought one and wrote extensively a about it. As I remember he had just returned from the Sand Box.

This is the original thread. Might give some clues on potential buyers of those units.
