I agree with Lew, that carb cleaner is great for prep....BUT, it can attack some paints, coatings and plastics if you are not very careful with it. There are two other products which won't harm paints nor attack plastics/rubber. BrakeClean and my favorite final prep chemical for many projects. PrepSol (or other paint prep brands). It is designed as the last wipe down before and between paint coats for cars etc. IMO, it is the best FINAL prep chemical, but doesn't clean a quantity of oxidation or dirt well.

My methodology is BrakeClean then a final wipe down with PrepSol.

Actually the age could be part of the issue. We've had the product for quite some time. I wasn't aware that it had a shelf life. Thanks.

There should be a date code stamped on the tube. I think it's on the metal part inside the bottom of the tube.
