tar removal?

I am having a hard time finding kerosene to remove small amounts of tar on AS. Any other suggestions that will not hurt SSE 08' finish? Thank you.

hi lisa...

i'm guessing wd-40 will have the most user support here...

and it does work.

whatever solvent is used be careful about 'rubbing' because road tar often has sand or other abrasives in it...

and the stuff can scratch the clearcoat....

i use 3m remover or sd-20 noted in these posts...

this shouldn't apply to a NEW trailer,

but for really OLD DRIED HARD tar and oversprays i use an automitive 'clay bar'...

if solvents don't dissolve it first...

2air is not guessing.

For tough tar spots, take a paper towel & fold it twice to make it a quarter of its size.

Tape the folded paper towel over the stubborn spot.

Spray the folded paper towel with WD-40 until saturated.

LEAVE IT ALONE for a couple of hours.

THEN, remove the paper towel and assess. Repeat as necessary, and rubbing will not be required.

I use a similar technique for my motorcyle helmet's face-shields for bug splatters (water instead of WD40) for outstanding results.

On the "few" occasions that I have tracked grease onto MY WIFES white carpet, WD40 always removes it before she gets home from work, thus saving my Bacon.

Its scary how ordinary Mayonaise will dissolve just about any tar and pitch.

I use old fashioned liquid lighter fluid (naptha). it will disolve tar or just about any glue without damaging any finish.

We used ordinary bleach and a brush to get tar balls off of our shoes after walking on the Gulf coast...

Turtle Wax Bug and Tar Remover.

Used it to remove glue and tar for years, works great. Just put some on the tar and let it sit for a few minutes and then wipe carefully. Repeat as needed.

Try the liquid paint solvent (thinners). (Varsole) Found at any American hardware store. It is Coal oil or kerosene.
Be sure to warm it to facilitate easier removal.
Allow sometime with cloth soaked in kerosene applkied against stain to let it desolve the tar.
It will not harm your finish.

Hi, lighter fluid has always been my favorite for removeing sticky things without paint damage Etc. Tar, Body side mouldings, and padded dash pads on two 1959 Galaxies.

I have packing tape ALL the way around my airstream ( very old) , do you think Lighter fluid will work and are you talking about the lighter fluid in the old fashion cigarette lighters or the kind you use to light charcoal briquettes?

Tarminator Tarminator quickly and easily removes tar, sap, bugs, grease and asphalt from auto exteriors. found at any auto parts or discount store has always worked well for me and never hurt the clear coat on my trailer or cars. About $4 a can.

Lestoil is what I've always used for road tar removal - a few drops on a soft cloth - rub gently, then rinse with water.
