I recently purchased a 1970 23ft Airstream Safari. What I can only think of as the stink pipe outlets coming out of the roof are just bare black pvc with some sheet metal and goo loosely fitted around them. There doesn't seem to be any major leakage but I do need to address this. Does anybody have tips on how to finish this off properly? Maybe some decent pics or links to where to buy replacement parts. I am new to rvs and this is my first of many questions.
Peace and thanks for the help.
I just went to inspect for a fit and I was wrong. No sheet metal there, just a square of brittle cracked yellow plastic and a mess of butyl tape. These should work fine once I clean all the mess off the roof. I guess I should seal the new caps with butyl tape. I'll also have to fill the old screw holes. I was going to use clear silicone. Good thing or bad thing?
I had bought some 50 year clear architectural grade silicone from ACE Hardwarebthe other day to start sealing up leaks. It says on the label that it is good for aluminum. Should I not use this? I'm not trying to doubt you. I'm just ignorant on the subject.
The biggest issue with silicone is once you use it nothing else will stick until you clean ALL the residue off, this is not as much of a problem with the urethane based sealants. Trempro is a better choice IMHO.

Why are we in this basket...and where are we going
"SikaFlex 715 is a great, self-levelling roofing sealant for things like Fantastic fans, tank vent caps and other thru-roof penetrations."
"If you are looking for seam and/or window sealing, then SikaFkex 221 in grey is what you need. Also, the Airstream factory uses a product called Acryl-R for wicking into outer seams as well."
