Stick with Rope Attached?

I have used an item of this type when I had horses. You loop it around a horses nose and twist it real tight to make him behave while you do something that he does not particularly like. It is called a "twitch".
For an AS, I have no idea!!!!!!!!!!

Both seem to have markings that indicate a 'high-water-point' - one is made with black tape, the other seems to be drawn so I can only surmise that Cracker may be correct! It that isn't it, I have no clue.

Many years ago, members of my unit used a stick such as the second one as a carrier for the sewer hose. The stick was slid through the hose, and the rope kept the hose in place. The hose then stored more easily in the bumper compartment.

I don't think it was "water" level that they were checking...

This is crude, but maybe you should give it a good sniff - then we'll know if the poo-level or sewer hose ideas are likely!

I think the funny part (besides all the comments) is that they came from 2 different airstreams from 2 different parts of the country.

It could also be to catch a stray dog, or catch a dog that might be attacking you, like the animal shelters use, or perhaps other animals as well.

All kidding aside - I think that you've got it; however, the other use I can see for this contraption is to hang the slinky up for drainage prior to storage. I'm forever trying to find a friendly tree to hang it from after I rinse it - at my campsite - and the stick would greatly shorten the slinky for that purpose. If I use the dump station it just goes back in the PVC tube wet.
