Step Repair 1998 31' Excella 1000
While setting up camp I noticed that during my recent travels a bolt had come out of the step-arm. Had to do some thinking because these are not readily available... not having an Airstream dealer on every corner.
With the help of the customer service rep at the local Ace Hardware we came up with a "temporary" fix until I can either order from Vintage Airstream or ODMRV or purchase at the next "convenient" Airstream dealer.
I have included photos of the items I purchased, and the Ace item numbers for easy identification, and which bolt needed replacing. I had to do some minor modifications, i.e. slightly trim one end of the nylon bushing so I could get it started in the hole. "Pushed" it through the hole and into both arms using a channel lock pliers. Used the nylon bushing and the brass washers to minimize reaction between the stainless steel and aluminum. Instead of using the lock washer, I opted using the red Lock-Tite... using both washers brought the round head too close to the step and it would't close. There is enough "play" now to allow the steps to fully open and close and lock into place. Hope this helps.
