My dealer had another SS vent....same problem. Looks like I'll stick to the original for a while.

Well that's not good.

Could be they got warped when welded.

If anybody's interested, the Stainless Steel Compartments are back in stock, but the Airstream Internet Store has not been updated yet and still shows them out of stock. I ordered mine over the phone this morning. the stock white painted ones were rusting and starting to bother me, aesthetically.

Mine looks exactly like yours.

I was wondering if mine was defective, but I guess this is how they all are.

Does any of this sound familiar. Can I expect better from an exchange?

Also, the SS heater door that I bought is without a securing tab for the vent (like the one on the original Atwood door). So the vent wanted to fall back into the compartment. Nothing that a bit of foil heat duct tape couldn't fix. The door also seems to be warped. Could be that a brazed-on hinge tube is slightly off.

Bottom line......not terribly impressed so far by the pricey SS upgrades.

I got tired of hearing that damper bump in the wind while I was trying to sleep. I push a piece of foam I trimmed of a mattress topper up into the opening at night. That holds the damper down. When in storage or traveling I leave it there to keep the elements and insects out. I have driven thousands of miles with this little piece of foam. I can't believe in has not fallen out.
