Stability? It’s not going to get done!

12 days till camping and we don’t even have the walls on or painted yet. Electrical is not done, or floor, or upholstery, or cabinets! It will be hard core to get anything close to looking like a bathroom. I have to pick out the floor and upholstery still. I don’t mind cooking on the grill, Right now I’m just hoping for a bed. We did order the 6” foam. Any words of wisdom out there for what absolutely should be done?

I gather you are in the beginning stages of a complete remodel. : ) 12 days to get all that done? Highly unlikely but still possible as long as you don’t sleep for the next 12 days and everything is on site ready to go in and you are incredibly handy.

All this, even before you leave the driveway:

Check axles for axle droop, check and repack axle bearings; check condition of frame for cracks and rust; make sure all electrical connections and grounds for lights and TV electrical hookups work; make sure inside of tonque receiver is clean in order to get good ground; DOT tires; replace if older than 10 years old, or display signs of checking and cracking, check tire pressures and obvious signs of abnormal wear; make sure you can see trailer side with TV mirrors, get extenders if neccessary; check storage doors and access flaps for signs of coming apart at the hinges, (losing these can be expensive, or even impossible to replace).

Everything else is fluff. You might want to pack a tent.

Cheers

Coffee, energy drinks, power tools, and a credit card with a high limit.
Get the things you absolutely, positively have to get done first. Walls, tires, brakes, exterior lights. make sure the windows open, close and latch. Fix the holes in the floor.
Make sure the air conditioner functions.

Take the tools with you. Install and repair as you go, because you aren't going to be able to get everything done before you leave.

Take sheets or towels to hang over the windows at night as curtains.

LOL, thanks everyone. The awning is ordered. Floor and fabric are to be finalized by Monday. Electric is in now except for the dimmer switches and the only ones we see to order are on ebay for 40 bucks each. Any ideas there? We need 4! We got this baby in March and waited to gut her because of the long winter. We didn't think we would have to but little by little, the decision eventually was that she was coming apart all the way. We lost probably 2 weeks there and with the pressing job that my husband has, we've been behind from the beginning. Sat today ended up a work day at work for him.

You're prayers are appreciated.

Put the center panel in, throw in some mattresses with a few folding chairs and a table and go for it! It will a be great motivator to finish your camper. Have fun.

Katty, don't worry go camping anyway. It's a beautiful tent. You can even do a little bit of work while you are out there.

On a serious note that looks almost like ours (not exaggerating by much) and we camp in it on a regular basis. It's just real camping.

I set up a kitchen on two folding tables with a camp stove and a dish pan. We sleep on a fold out Ikea bed. Hang our clothes on a clothes rack. We pack a lugaloo if there are no facilities around.

We love sitting outside and dreaming of our next AS project.

We had the bright idea of buying a bigger (house) property 3 years ago that had a lot of deferred maintenance. We love the house but that means all our time, money and efforts go into that and nothing had happened to the Airstreams.

Oh yeah, I wanted to ask about the interior divider walls. Are they necessary?

Interior divider walls are not a structural component to the Airstream shell; as long as all interior walls are back on, she's good to tow.

Cheers

If you double the number of workers you will cut the time in half.

In my career (software), doubling the number of workers, quadruples the time!!

Yup. From the book about the "mythical man-month".

Also the 90-90 rule applies:

"The first part of the project takes 90% of the schedule and 90% of the money. The last 10% of the project takes another 90% of the money and another 90% of the time..."

it seems to be a "law of nature' in the software and computer system business...

Electric done except switches, walls in but not all riveted, floor in, bathroom will be incomplete, cushions 80% complete, interior straight walls are being worked on... not the easiest task...

Starting to think about counter tops, cabinets, pantry, door knob, curtains.

Interior walls add to the structural integrity of the unit. It will be a lot more "solid" with the interior walls in place, and properly attached.

The "I'm all done except for" calculation applicable to each job site supervisor in the construction industry used by the project cost engineer when reporting to management. A wise manager also applies the rule to the cost engineer.
