solar water heater

anybody have any experience with a solar water heater connected into an existing tank? I need to replace the water heater and I'm not seeing much info on the net regarding solar options.

Not exactly, but.....

We picked up a couple of solar showers last year, that work great. Heat them in the sun a few hours, and they are comfortably warm.

Could drain them into a tank, maybe, or hang them in your shower to use.

Or, use them to wash heads, as we did, outside and well away from the campsite.

We have had solar heated water at our home since 1983. Works great for a home. Don't think it would be easy to configure a system on the roof of a travel trailer that would stand up to the rigors of going down the road. A gas water heater, perhaps with the addition of an electric heat element, takes very little room, can be quite efficient. We usually turn our water heater on first thing in the morning and turn it off after breakfast dishes. On again when we start dinner, off after evening showers. This works for us most all of the time.
