Has anyone found a solvent/method that safely removes cured silicone?

silicone removal products can usually be found at most any Home Depot, Lowes etc. VTS also has a very good product available. It helps to do it on a warm day (or you can use a heat gun to speed things along)

Just a factoid to keep in mind:

Dow-Corning flatly states cured Silicone caulks/adhesives have 'no known solvent' so what the 'removal' products do is break the bond with hard surfaces silicone has slimed, err... the silicone has been applied to.

I just recycled 3/8" plate glass shelves that each had six feet of silicone residue from glued-on oak trim... only took 60 minutes each using a fresh razor blade and shaving the three sides at the glass edges down to bright shiny glass, so if you're getting more than one foot per ten minutes with a removal-product it sounds like a deal...

we've had some success using a "3M Stripe Off Wheel" to remove what's left after cutting off closely with a knife - Stripe Off Wheels:*Stripe Off Wheels

you need a power tool that you can hold steady, as the wheel will "run off" if you don't hold tight!
