To answer the OP’s original question: this is a known issue with the shower door. I think Colonial Airstream sent me one for free or very cheap. Replacement takes a few minutes. It is not necessary to remove the door. Never noticed water getting outside the shower, before or after the replacement. We have a handheld shower. The idea is to get water on yourself not the door. Admittedly, we don’t use the shower foe hair washing, which might get more water around, and also do a much better job of filling your grey tank and depleting your water supply.
Of course, some folks view their trailers as a continuing project; others just use ‘em to go camping. So I’m sure there’s all kinds of stuff that can be done, but we’re in the “camping” group. Don’t sweat this one, and don’t pay gobs of money for someone to fix it. Buy some fuel for your TV and go camping!

This is not about shower doors but it is about Aistream service. We needed new axles, Airstream said it would take every bit of 4 days to get it done. Bought the axles directly from Dexter and they shipped them to a local shop. 2.5 hours labor to install them, axles, brakes, bearings, spindles, the whole thing.

And I vouch for that. Bought mine at Tampa RV. Now go to Sanders for anything! They’re the best!

Easy Fix

We’ve had numerous problems with shower doors and have had to replace twice. It always starts with the shower sweeps tearing. Then the door won’t open and close properly without lifting it. The repeated lifting over time will cause additional problems and eventually, if not fixed, the door will fall off

Good news! We finally figured out the fix and it cost less than a dollar. We bought a 3/8 inch nylon lock nut and placed under the lower door hinge. This holds the door up (after the shower sweep starts tearing) and allows for smooth open/close operation without having to lift the door. And, even though the sweep is torn, there are no water leaks when showering. Wish we would have figured this out sooner: would have saved us significant $’s and tons of investigation.

Are you thinking that Airstream should stock all of the axles, brakes and bearings for all of the trailers that they have made. I would think that they would order them in from Dexter, just like you had to do.

Ordinarily I hate to add to a thread hijack, but (just as Adventure.AS probably felt the need to do) I can't let this one go .

I can confirm that Airstream also orders from Dexter. Not quite a year ago, I ordered a new axle for our 2002 19' from our local Airstream dealer. When it arrived, various labels clearly showed that it had just been ordered by Airstream from Dexter.

Of course not, that would be stupid. The OP was astonished the Airstream dealer wanted $600 to install a $10 part and asked if he was missing something. No, you're not missing something. This is what they do, and here's another example. 4 days vs. 2.5 hours.

I had a very competent shop in South Dakota replace the 3 axles on my trailer and they took 9.75 hrs to remove, install and align everything correctly. If a shop did 2 axles in 2.5 hours they must be amazing, or missed something like alignment! If you'r happy, that is the main thing!! But back to the shower door sweep, got a piece from the local shower door store that worked perfectly after cutting to length. Took about 15 minutes and $12.

Yep, that was 5000 miles ago and no problems so yeah, we're happy. Also happy we are not having trouble with our shower door gasket!

Did you have to take the door off to install the lock but?

Amazon has several "shower door sweeps" I saw more than one possibility.
As a child I did a lot of browsing.in Sears & Roebuck and Montgomery Ward catalogs. Seems odd neither caught the wave of the internet. Don't really miss anything.but the detailed product descriptions that are now hard to find.

Ok, so we're talking about the sweep on the bottom of the shower door, correct? If so:

1. I just replaced the sweep in our Globetrotter. Since I live a ways from my dealer, they sent me the part free since the trailer is still under warranty and I replaced it myself in about 15 minutes. It simply slides into a channel at the bottom of the door. The door need not be removed.

2. The real issue is that Airstream of Tampa is trying to charge you 4 hours of labor for a 15 minute job which is not just borderline, but literally criminal. I would use extreme caution when dealing with these people for any future repair work. That is outrageous.

I did a lot of browsing in those catalogues, also. In fact, I actually worked at Montgomery Ward designing laundry & vacuum cleaner products. Now a days I get frustrated with the Amazon on-line types because they lack product details.

I am not young and not slender. And yet I too replaced the shower sweep.in 20 minutes... the extra 5.minutes was spent getting back UP and taking an aspirin for my aching knees. Airstream of Tampa? I do feel sorry for any poor slob who has to try to keep up with all the new equipment changes, and older equipment, as well as all of the small nitpicky jobs. One way to say, "Don't go away mad, just go away" is to price something out of all reason. OTOH they could be oblivious and think that the door frame and door have to be taken apart to replace the sweep, then reinstalled. Or, they are just greedy and testing the limits.

Sears.catalog memory: dozens of products came in three versions - good, better, best - and there were succinct paragraphs that explained the quality and price difference. Percale sheets were better than muslin, but you could put a lot more bleach into loads of muslin...and percale was easier to iron! Yes, BPP (before permanent press!)
