Scratch removal

All,

We have a 2014 AS and somehow have acquired a few small scratches in the finish, nothing major, looks like "someone" may have gotten just a little too close to a bush or? I'll blame that on the co-pilot, backer-upper, executive assistant (wife).

Anyway, being new to the AS world, the simple question: Can such small scratches in the finish be removed as they would with other automotive finishes, e.g. polishing compound etc. ? If so is there some special technique that should be followed? As I understand it, when waxing the rig, only horizontal motion should be applied rather than rotary or vertical strokes.

I had someone wash my trailer and while washing the roof pulled the sandy water hose across the top and scratched the surface. It could not be rubbed out so they had to replace the entire panel. I hope that your scratches are less but if they are in the aluminum I don't believe you can rub them out. If not too noticeable I would ignore them but treat them to prevent corrosion. I wish you well

Thanks for the input. Unlike what you describe these are surface clear coat scratches, that should be easily rubbed out if that is an approved method.

Try Griot's Paint Sealer product with their random orbital polisher. That has helped me with the 'rubs' that are always attracted to the trailer. I use Paint Sealer as a general 'polish' on the AS and my cars.

I think the 'follow the grain' was for the pre clear coat panels of earlier model trailers.

I also use the Griot's products.
I've found the One Step Sealer works very well on surface scratches.

The mop-on-a-stick along with their car wash will also reduce the chance of unintended scratches.

I don't think you'll find better microfiber products anywhere.

Since Bob directed me to Griot's products my AS and cars have been glistening! Best On The Planet and I've tried lots of them over the years.
