Salvage in Texas
saw this today on the web...lot of great parts here and maybe a restorable unit.
1982 AIRSTREAM EXCELLA - Salvage Direct
If anyone parts it out I have dibs on the entry door! If it was closer to GA I would be towing it home.

The bid is up to $800. The shell is in good shape. Just the tanks, fans, water heater and Zip Dee parts are worth that much. If was just a day closer...

If it was flooded above the sinks it probably needs new axles, brakes, floor, appliances, cupboards, in other words a typical average restoration project.

Will we ever know?
Wish I could get over there to see it. Maybe it will not sell due to the reserve. If so I'll try to get over there next week.
I just cannot fathom why the owner wasn't able to remove it before storm. But maybe they were busy removing more important things like their family and other belongings.
Wonder if they were/are forum members?
Wonder if Insurance treated them right?
Wonder if insurance is even honored or available if an RV is kept in coastal zone?
Gotta think the salvage folks realize it could bring a certain amount pieced out or such. Maybe they just don't have time or inclination for that though.

Maybe it was in a storage lot or vacation park a long way from the owner's home?

Having evacuated for at least a dozen storms over the years I can tell you hard choices have to be made and made quickly. You have to worry about your family but also what you employer and what needs to be done to secure your work place or job site. On the insurance question yes insurance is available I paid mine today. I had a sail boat totaled by Katrina ( could not get it moved in time), I was paid out, given the boat back and the same company reinsured the boat so in most cases insurance companies treat you fairly or at least in my experience. I was also treated fairly on my damage claim for my home.

It appears the trailer is being sold by an auction company or salvage company.
Insurance companies usually hand over salvaged vehicles to auction companies for disposal. Their job is to advertise and sell the property by public auction. Usually these auctions are open only to licensed dealers.
They may have changed this policy to include Ebay sales to the public.
Or, the trailer was bought by a dealer whose business is to buy from the auction wholesale and resell to a retail buyer.
In any case, the trailer went for only $1050 so someone got a bargain. It looks a lot longer than 27 feet too.

1050? A great deal for someone. I recently met a couple that bought a nice Sovereign in usable shape for 2500. Took cleaning and some redecorating. There are some deals out there!!
