Rumble Strip Ramblings: Alice Reno!

I am starting this thread to share our renovations of our 1982 31 foot Excella that we named Alice.

We bought our Airstream, Alice, off a Craigslist add from a great guy named Al.

Welome aboard!! The fun is about to begin. This is the place to get help and thoughts about your upcoming reno. I had a lot of help when I did out 1976. Most of it was good, and some of it great. Chris

Demoing the Gaucho Couch

@CBWELL Thanks! I have been lurking on the forums for a few months but I am excited to become a more active member.

The first thing we demoed in Alice the Airstream was the Gaucho Couch

for more pics and info you can check out our blog post about removing the couch here.

Taking out curtains

The curtains were old, water damaged and stinky so they had to go.

Let there be light!

Demoing the Rear Bedroom

First we removed the curtains.

Then we started to demo the beds.

Under the carpet we found rotted subfloor

The end table came out after the beds.

We were left with rotted floors and mouse droppings, mouse poison and mouse repellent. No dead mouse bodies yet!

More photos and info on the bedroom demo on our blog.

Is Alice a mid bath? If it is the window layout looks different from my 82.

Yours look to be the same size and my bathroom window is small.

Alice is an 84, twin bed rear bedroom. I miss typed the first post and couldn't figure out how to edit it.

Nice trailer. You have a lot to work with.
I have replaced floors in two trailers before. You will likely find the leak for the rotted floor was caused by:
1.) battery box
2.) panoramic window
3.) long vertical seam
4.) lower beltline

Make it a point to put time in your schedule to recaulk the entire trailer when the weather warms up.

The custom fit curtains for the Airstream make a big difference when refurbishing. Here is a place to have new custom fit Airstream curtains/Drapes made by a company that has been doing this for a long.

Drapes For Airstream and Argosy Trailers

Good luck with your project.

@crispyboy Thanks! I am sure we will have loads of questions once we get to the subfloor issues.

Demoing the Wardrobe

We got the Wardrobe out!
We didn't have much time but we still managed to sneak out for about 45 minutes and were able to get a little more demoed.
We have three young kids... what were we thinking when we took on this renovation project?!

The kids love helping out so we try to let them help whenever it is safe for them to do so.

more pics up on this blog post.

Large Wardrobe Demo

We got the big wardrobe out!

First we removed the room divider.

Then the closet doors.

I forgot how big the wardrobe was!

The door support came down next.

Then a wall!

The final board.

And this is what we were left with.
