More Inner Skin Demo

Our goal this weekend was to get the rest of the inner skin off on the curb side. And like every other steps of the demo, we greeted with an obstacle right off the bat. We couldn’t remove the skin on the left of the door where the light switches and lock were because we needed to be able to lock up Alice and we were not ready to play locksmith. Our other obstacle was that we couldn’t get the skin out with out removing the door casing/trim. This wasn’t as big of a deal as we thought it would be. Just like so many other steps to this process we just had to take it one puzzle piece at a time.

Then with the help of the crow bar he very carefully removed the door casing/trim. The last thing we wanted here was to bend the casing because finding a replacement or trying to bend it back correctly would be tough.

Front End End Cap Demo

The Front end cap is our practice end cap. We do not plan on using this end cap again. Our plan is to move the rear endcap to the front end cap because it is better and more functional storage.

Tim took apart the radio and took down lights.

Finally we were down to just the end cap.

And then many drilled out rivets later...

Rear End Cap Demo

The plan is to use this more functional end cap in the front of Alice. The storage is better and the end cap, as a whole, is in better condition. We will still have to plastic weld a few places where it has cracked, but in theory, that will not be too big a deal…. famous last words.

You can find video and more photos and info on our blog.

Alice's Awning

We are so lucky and happy that the awning looks great. It just needed a bit of a cleaning!

I love the cheery blue stripes.

Wire Demo

Between the extensive water damage, the fact that there was a small army of mice that chewed through most of the wiring to make homes in the walls, and the moldy insulation covering every inch of stripped wire, we made the decision to scrap it all and start from scratch. With all the inside skins off, we would never have better access than we do now.

It is amazing the difference it made to get rid of those wires. Alice looks so much cleaner now and we are almost to our blank slate.

Next, we just need to finish up waterproofing (including around the doors and windows), do another water test and then we are ready to remove the rotted out subfloor!
