Rubber bumper on trailer

i have a 27' 1970 airstream. on side opposite door toward the rear, there is a rubber piece half way up close to the reflector. i'm wondering what it is for. i looked at picture of similar aged trailers and some have it ...some don't. mine does not completely seal the hole and there some electrical wires visible. was this a light of some kind? thanks

I think what you are talking about is the taillight monitor. The wires are actually fiber optic cables attached to the taillights. When the turn signals or brake lights are activated this monitor can be seen from the driver's side rear view mirror of the tow vehicle.

Hi dachie, Welcome to the forums!

You will get the best answer to your question if you post a picture with the question.

Seeing what you see helps take the guess work out of the question.
