I take them off by slipping my finger under one side and popping them off. They are held in place by clips which allow removal. I have one that does not come off that way so I used a towel under an screwdriver and get it started that way.
I clean them with a vacuum, but be forewarned they are very thin and flimsy and if not done right they can be sucked into the vac very easily.
Occasionally we will wash them in warm soapy water, rinse real well and let dry before replacing.
