Replacing aluminum step brace

I am trying to repair the step on my 1988 32' excella 1000. The top aluminum brace on one side broke. I bought 2 new ones and am attempting to replace the broken one. My question is: Do I need to replace this brace in pairs, as the replacement part seems to be about 1/8" different from the broken one and I cannot seem to get the step to "align" with the new part installed. It either "hooks" on the old side and drops on the new, or vice versa. I checked with Jackson Ctr. and the part # 680213 is correct. Any thoughts on how to proceed?
