Replacement of furnace

I have a 1987 Argosy. The furnace went out and the RV repair guy says it is not repairable. It is a Hydro Flame 8535 35K BTU model. The RV guy says it will cost $1300 to replace it including labor.

I have found these on ebay for $549 so that would be $700+ for labor just to do the install.

I am a pretty handy guy and am thinking seriously about doing the install myself. It looks like 1/2 dozen screws, a few wires and a gas fitting. Is it as easy as i think it is?

Also on my furnace I don't see a II, III, VI or another designation. The ones I see on ebay seems to be III or VI. Are they interchangeable?

Thanks
Dan

I have never installed a furnace in a airstream ,but did a new install in a Coleman tent trailer and it was a breeze, like you said the furnace price is reasonable the labour is a killer,I would say it's going to be trickier in the airstream but for me I would attempt it ,I'm not sure on your mechanical skills so you have to be the judge there, I'm sure you could save some cash by just removing the old one that's the harder part or install it yourself and have professional inspect it before use to be safe! Good luck on whatever you choose.
