Removing the old numbers and stars
We bought our first A/S last summer from a wonderful couple in Alabama. Now we have joined WBCCI, received our identical numbers, but the old ones seem to be "one with the unit" presently. Can anyone suggest how I should best remove the old and clean the dome to place the new numbers?
Would appreciate any and all suggestions because Goop nor peanut butter worked.

uh, make that a hair dryer - a heat gun might be too hot and stretch the aluminum. Also all adhesives seem to hate either WD-40 or plain vegetable oil. Put a bit on a rag and leave it on the edge of a number for at least 10 minutes. If you can, get one corner starting to curl. That helps a lot. You can get plastic razor blades, or use the edge of a credit card to work around the edges of the numbers too.

I used a heat gun with no problem, but if you only have a hair dryer use it. I also used WD40 which had no effect. Paint stripper will soften the vinyl, remove the glue but also remove the clear coat. You will still have ghost images of the old numbers. The only way I found to get rid of them completely is polish the hell out of them. Then, of course, you will have very shiny ghost numbers.

Steam Iron, and a wet rag. works like a charm.
the problem w/ solvents is that they don't come in contact with the glue; its being shielded by the vinyl; you need to remove the sticker in order to get the solvent on the glue...and if you could do that, you wouldn't need the solvent!
