Removing Rock guards over the windows 2017 Flying Cloud.

I was successful with the lower rock guards, cleaned behind them and struggled to get them back on. Won't be doing that again very often. The window guards have hinges on one side and two screws on the other. What's the trick with getting those screws to actually come out?

They are not screws. Turn 1/4 turn counter clockwise and pull straight out.

I have a bunch of leaves and pine straw in mine.
You wanna come over and clean them for me?
I'll get a round tuit one day...
Usually about once a year...

Yep, the crummy "gap" of the top seal lets all that crud in, but the bottom seal won't let it out... * sigh *

I put a foam pipe wrap over the top edge. It will then make contact with the window frame. Keep about 95% of the crap out. Sun eats them about every two years, but at a couple buck each, who cares. Can't see them from the ground....wouldn't know they were there, unless you look for them.

Careful

Just a quick note when removing the window guards. The suggestions on releasing them are all correct, great advice. However, the window guards are not really on hinges like the bottom body guards. You must lift them off. If you hinge them out, the guards will dent the trailer sides at the rear of each guard. Just release them pull out a few inches and lift off the posts.

My wife and i bought our trailer at Woodland Travel Center in Grand Rapids, MI, and the dealer required we spend the night in the trailer at the dealership and spent a whole day going over each system and little things like then window guards. We have been very happy with the before and after sale service at our dealer.

Thank you DZN and Patten. Hate to say our dealer was horrible. Windish in Denver. They like selling them but were not good at being thorough. Found Colonial in New Jersey has a YouTube channel and they have all the answers that Windish will never have. Appreciate the tips guys. Loving connecting with all you Airstreamers.

I raise the center shade/protector first.
Then I turn the little latches and open the corner protectors outward- not far enough to dent the trailer.
I don't remove them.
I just clean all the crud out and close it all back up.
Maybe I should try the pipe insulation/pool noodle trick to get less accumulation of gunk in there.
I'm thinking the accumulation of dust, which when wet from rain, dew, or 100% humidity in the south, turns to mud and much will still happen.
Once a year to clean it all up isn't too extreme.
I usually wait till someone points it out to me that there is leaves and stuff in there.

learned some of those lessons the hard way... ( dented trailer, replacing those weird little fasteners, etc) . So what is the trick for that pipe wrap foam at the top? Do you just slide it on over the top and let that light adhesive on the wrap hold it on?

First ones were the Home Depot 3/4" pipe insulators which come in 4' sections with a peel off strip to self adhere the longitudinal slit together. That glue made a MESS after being on in the sun for a year or two. 2nd set had no adhesive and stay in place by pressure between skin and rock guard lip. Just slip them over the rubber gasket from the center window top edge to where they start to curve down the side.

No trick, just blocks the big stuff...pin needles, maple whirligigs, leaves etc from getting between the guard and window.

I believe this is the "Turn Fastener Stud", have one on the street-side that I couldn't re-fasten without someone helping me hold the rock guard, the curb-side worked much easier.

They do loosen up over time and use.

So does anyone have a solution to the coating on my windows?i have tried windex with news paper, window cleaner with paper towels And it just won't come clean. It seems as though there was something paper coating with adhesive and for the life of me I can't get them to be super clean.

What's the trick at getting the guards back on,,?,easy coming off, but when you go to try and put them back on the screws don't want to line up with the rubber holes

My wife learned a few choice words from me trying to get these things to align
