Relocating Battery Box on 1976 Safari

Well, finally bought an Airstream. Looks like I jumped in head first. Does anybody know of a good place to relocate the battery on a 76 Safari? The drop down door that looks like a step in pretty mangled. I might be able to reshape the frame and get the door to work again but I'm not sure I'd trust it from falling off on the road. I was thinking about just removing the door/battery box and making a new one. I was thinking that I could use a refrigerator door cover just above the belt line. I would have to move the fresh water fill if I went this route. Anybody been through this? Thanks.
