Refrigerator fans

There are several threads about adding fans to help circulate hot air behind refrigerators. There are not too many posts talking about the results.
Has anyone had good luck in improving hot weather performance by adding or rearranging the location/position of fans?

I removed the fridge vent cover on the roof and mounted them down inside the “chimney” about 6”-8” to draw air up and out the chimney.

They have made the fridge cool better (good and cold at a lower setting), even on a recent trip where one afternoon got up to 110 degrees. The trailer was in the direct sun, and we had the side awnings deployed which shaded the side of the trailer nicely.
(I also added a “Fridge Fix” fan inside the fridge. Well worth the cost!)

I agree that in general most posts I have read seem to be positive. I was looking for more specific numbers. Mainly in the case of ambient temperatures in the plus 90f and installations in 16 foot sport models. Most of the posts I read pertaining to this model just address success at reducing noise.

I should have been more specific about the model in my original post. Thanks Paul and Gina anyway.

You might consider starting a thread in the sub-forum which includes your 16' Sport:

As you can see, that thread has very specific temp etc feedback for that exact BC fridge and installation.

If you do start a new thread, may I suggest that you title it something like "Sport 16' Refrigerator Fan Results," because that sub-forum lumps together a few different models/lengths. A specific ID of your model in the "headline" should also narrow the discussion nicely, as the longer length Airstreams in that sub-forum may have different floor plans and fridges, compared to yours.

Anyway, good luck with getting the information you seek. The BC Simple Survey thread is long, but a rewarding read in terms of the time and energy some users have devoted to improving their fridges, and getting Airstream to recognize a possible design defect in the location of the fridge at the front, where direct sun can beat down on its vent on hot days.

Am in the process of replacing in same AS location to pull air across heat exchange surface - but with a fan that is quieter and more air flow 120 m3/h (mass flow for removing more heat). Learning that 120 mm fans are different - some designed for computer casing (flow) while others designed to overcome pressure ie. through a radiator....after last trip - first time with 2017 FC23FB in hot weather....now desire a quieter fan with more flow. And at .12A running 24/7 that is 2.88 Ah or about about 2.5% of my battery capacity (50% of total) a day (Using two (2) Lifeline 6V at 220 Ah) that can be made up with solar. Might just jumper across the thermostat switch and let it run continuously. Am thinking AS engineering is probably taking a closer look at this with side mounted Dometic exhausts....better fan(s) for higher flow and lower noise.

FYI and FWIW

Unfortunately the phone app search function does not work as well as the web based system. It has been months since I have logged into the web site.

Unless I sm missing something, the app returns very broad results.

Never used the App and am not sure if its search function is also powered by Google, to add the term "site:airforums.com" into the search automatically?

Yes, the search results in Post #3 are broad, which is why I suggested in Post #5 that the OP start a new thread in the sub-forum which includes his Sport 16'.
