I am restoring my "new" 1965 Safari and fortunately I am able to do a lot with just elbow grease and couple of cans of penetrants and lubricants.
Plastic vent covers and new wheels were obvious, but what really hit me is, that the toilet, that is build into rear bench is having metal sleeve below porcelain bowl, that turned into dust. Really!
I know in that era some aluminum casts was formulated as "shaisemetal" and have seen smaller plumbing parts doing that, but this is major setback to me.
Replacing the toilet with new available on the market is not an option without remodeling whole bathroom, changing floor plan and so on.
I search the forum and didn't find any topic about the issue, but have seen several pictures with AS bathrooms identical to mine.
Can't believe I am the only one with the problem and hope somebody has an easier solution?

I remember seeing it discussed, but of course can't find it now. What I remember was the person cut a larger opening where the toilet was, and dropped another toilet into the hole, and bolted it up. hand flush valve, of course.

There are new retro looking pots out there. Check the porcelain bowls that are available and also check heads in marine supply sites. As for myself, when I finally replace mine I want a bidet.

I finally yanked the toilet, or what left of it from the trailer.
Since the toilet is mounted under the bathroom molded bench, it has to be installed thru the 12" door in the back. Seems that for that reason the base of the toilet is made of two halves, so it can be inserted in parts and put together.
Too bad they used bad aluminum cast. The porcelain, plastic main valve and brass water valves are in good condition. Even discovered all brass vacuum breaker mounted under the sink.
That is quite disappointment to see all quality trailer having so important part just disintegrating.
I took a look at new marine toilets that have hand pumps, or expensive macerators. Will have to go to Camping Word and take a look at theirs. The trick is to find the toilet that is rounded, so it would not stick past the mold and having the top with a flange so it would seal on the original bench. I will have to cut bigger hole in the bench and have the new rim stick above it.
Tomorrow I am picking up new check valves for the original ($450 now) water pump. Wish me luck.

I would be interested in pictures and details of what you end up doing. I have a 66 Safari and have the same challenge with the bracing missing between the fiberglass and toilet top. The toilet works fine and is in very good condition.
