rear bumper cover leak sheet metal redesign

Hello, looking for ideas on redesigns of the dreaded bumper cover sheet metal rear access hatch leak. Id like a permanent solution not just caulking.

Any pictures of sketches of what you did would be very appreciated

cheers

The most popular fix is to create an "L" shaped piece of flashing that sits behind the center back skin with the base of the L extending out under the hinge of the bumper trunk. There are a few threads that discuss this--do a google search from outside the forums for terms like "rear end separation repair" and various permutations therof, and you might find some diagrams.

good luck!
