Question for Inland RV
I have a 2000 model 25" Safari...I've resealed the top of the rear window gasket twice with Sikaflex 221...it looks to be sealed but when I put a water hose to it (just above the rubber window gasket) it's still leaking. I'm at the point now of taking out the rear widow and resealing it.
My question is what kind of sealant should I put behind the rubber window gasket on a 2000 Safari ?
Could I use butyl tape ?

Are you talking about the D-seal that the glass touches when the glass window is closed?

Could be that the clearances lights are the real issue.
The top of the window gasket, unless it's cracked, should seal OK.
However, if it's the original double flare gasket, you might do better by changing it out to the hollow "D" gasket.

No.
Andy I resealed the clearance lights even though they showed no water under them when I took them off.
The water appears to be coming in between the Aluminum skin and the top of the rubber window gasket.
I can put the water just above the rubber window gasket and it doesn't take long before it's dripping at the top of the window between the inner skin and the trim piece that holds the window in. (I'll try and get some pics).

Mine is leaking bad enough that I have to catch it with a cup. I've been told by Airstream that I have "Creation Windows" and the company went out of business in 2008.
I put this piece of blue tape to show where the water is dripping in (at the bottom of the white trim piece).

is there a screw on the outside of this window frame? It looks like there is in the first picture and if so, that Might be where the water is entering.

Rarely, will the window gasket leak on a newer trailer.
Easy test as follows.
Take the inside screen out.
Have someone do the water.
You look at the inside top of the window for the water entry.

I hung the water hose over the roof with the end of the hose about where the A in Airstream is....in just a few minutes water is dripping in where I have the blue tape in the second picture. The caulking I've did (several times) at the top edge of the gasket isn't stopping the water.
At this point I'm ready to pull the window and reseal...what should I use ?
Will butyl tape work behind the rubber gasket ?

Not if the gasket was properly installed.
Best I can try and help you with is remove the screen, and see whats happening on the inside of the window.
It the leak the gasket or perhaps the hinge?

Sealing window
LFC, Just remember to use Sikaflex or Acryl-R to seal around the window at the end to seal the edges of the window instead of Silicone sealant. The only issue I see is your windows are most likely not screwed in, but if so this looks like the best fix. Ed

Personally, I'd pull it and seal under the gasket, not around it. I think it looks bad. But that's just me. Coincidentally (?????) your tape seems placed just about directly where the segment seam is between the panels. I'd suspect a gap in the rubber seal where it spans the joint.

Creation Windows
LFC --- here is a link to what seems to be left of the Creation window parts just in case you might need something. Page Title
I have/had them in my Bambi and ended up replacing both the front and rear window. The 2 that I replaced had screw holes punched in the frame and water poured in them so I had no choice if I wanted to stop the water. I would suggest that you take off the inside, white, trim ring and screen, then do another leak test so you get a better look. They may be a 2 part installation with an inner piece that screws into the outside part. That is how mine were. Basically an inner clamp ring that pulls the window tight to the skin. That's also how the holes got punched in mine. There is a groove that the screws are supposed to go into and someone didn't pay attention. No way to know that without pulling some screws.....
Agree to touch up the sealant on the body panels to the right and left of the "Airstream" letters. Good luck....
