Question about Zip Dee Flex key replacement

It is time to replace my awning flex-keys.

I have read, and am comfortable with, all the mechanics concerning awning removal, unwinding, removing fabric, re-installing, etc. One point I cannot seem to find an answer to is how to unwind the WINDOW awnings without damaging the AS skin.

Whereas, the main awning has its lower struts (arms) assembled with multiple pieces, where one can remove the lower section(s) and have a shorter arm to unwind with...the window awnings have a single piece lower strut arm. It does not appear that there is enough room, with the awnings deployed, to rotate the arms without hitting the AS skin with the butt end of the arm as you unwind the spring tension.

Has anyone performed this repair and how did you do it?

There is room. The spring side is on the left - so you can unwind the right side. Having a friend hold the awning out makes matters easier and safer.

I think the wind-up count is seven.

Thanks Pat. I did find an ancient (1970s) YouTube of a tape showing install of a window zip Dee. Unfortunately, the pdf s on zip dee site were broken as of yesterday.

Thanks, but I want to take them off to do a proper cleaning a re-treating with sunbrella fabric care (repellent). Its time for a proper overhaul. A lot easier while unfurled on the driveway.
