The original Winegard "Sensar" antenna is, as Rich and Gene have said, an amplified dipole antenna (for the VHF region of the television broadcast band). It can be aimed such that either of the longer sides fact the transmit antenna. The newer version of this antenna has several shorter UHF elements on one side. This side now becomes the "front" of the antenna and should be pointed at the transmitter. These elements are called parasitic elements and add gain and directionality for the UHF TV transmit band. This element set is available as the "Wingman" and will mount to the older Sensar antennas to upgrade their performance on UHF stations. Most stations are now in the UHF band. If you have an older Sensar it can be significantly improved by adding the Wingman.
