Power shutting off intermittently

We have a 2015 23D International Signature with 30 amp power and we went to a place this weekend we have gone to many times. Our power kept shutting off. We had the fridge and AC on. This is the first time this has happened. Luckily it was cool enough to just leave the AC off the rest of the weekend.

Has anyone had this issue, or does anyone know why this would happen?

Thank you!

What do you mean by shutting off? Was a breaker tripping on your trailer, on the power pedestal or was your power just going off and coming back on on it's own?

Most likely a bad connection in the power pole you were hooked up with. Do you have a volt/amp meter or a simple tester that you can check in the future. Also you might want to look into purchasing a portable EMS with surge protection. They are not cheap but offer a lot of protection and will also let you know about bad power.

What do you mean by power shutting off? The AC quit? Did you have to reset a breaker to get it back? If not there may have been a problem at the site. Did any of your neighbors have the same problem?

I have had power problems at several sites. One had a corroded 30A connector that overheated and tripped the pedestal breaker. I moved to the 50A connector with an adapter and all was fine. Another place had a bad 30A breaker. Same fix as above. Another (a KOA in south Florida) had the AC breaker trip repeatedly. Turns out there was only 92 volts at the pedestal and less in the trailer. I had to move to a different site where there was adequate voltage. After that I bought a plug in voltmeter and one of the first things I do when I get to a site is check the voltage.

Did you notice if any other folks lost power as well?

Did you have a surge suppressor at the pedestal? If the voltage was either too high or too low, the surge suppressor would disconnect and after a set time (usually around two minutes) re-connect.

Was the fridge running on propane or 120vac? If on propane, the trailer battery system supplies a minimal amount of 12Vdc to the control circuit board to cycle the fridge ammonia based cooling system.

How did the power get reset? Was it automatic or did you reset a breaker in the trailer or the pedestal?

Some answers could help steer the suggestions?

Hi all, thank you for the replies. To answer the questions, the power would shut off, meaning, the AC would stop. I would go out to the power and see that the little blue light on my cable was off. I would then turn the site's circuit breaker off and back on and then the power would go back on. It would stay on for a while and then shut off again. I would turn the site's circuit breaker off and back on and then the power would go back on.

We called the front desk and they sent out an engineer who said our RV was pulling too much power, and we needed 50 amps. I told him we have come here many times and did not have this issue. He kept saying that we are probably at the cusp over 30 amps. We did not notice neighbors power going out.

There is a 30A breaker in your trailer that apparently is not tripping. The fridge draws less than 3 amps and the AC around 15 but draws more momentarily when the compressor starts. The site's breakers should tolerate the momentary surge. It is highly likely the site's breaker is weak and needs to be replaced. Was it warm?

I carry a 50A to 30A adapter for sites like this. It could also be low voltage causing your AC to draw more current. But if you were drawing over 30A your internal breaker would be tripping.

I'm a retired engineer. The guy they sent out wasn't.

We have had that and then bought this along with surge protections. Ours os 50AMP though. I will be selling our 30AMP on in about a month when we pick up the other trailer.
Hope this helps. https://www.ebay.com/itm/BRAND-NEW-S...!US!-1&vxp=mtr

Do you have a volt meter? If the voltage is dropping then amperage goes up, and the breaker will trip. Many things can cause it, I recently had this happen on my new garage where a 30amp load (EV charging) was tripping a 60amp breaker...but not the 50amp breaker the load was connected to. Upon closer inspection it was because the feeder lines into the breaker were not torqued correctly, causing loss of conductivity...voltage drop, etc.

A good voltage meter can help expose problems like this. One you leave plugged into an outlet would let you watch it over time. A good surge protector would detect voltage drops and disable power, and report the error.

We are currently having the same issue. We have a 50 amp trailer (30 Classic) connected to a 30 amp service (with a 50 to 30 pigtail). We just have one AC unit on. Our Watchdog voltage protector unit is showing 18 amps on line 1 and about 2 amps on line 2 (from the park), at 108 volts on each line. Thoughts?

I think the watchdog will do a low voltage cutoff at 103v. If something causes your V to drop that far and the watchdog cuts out, it will tell you in the app. Next time you get a power bump, look at the app for a hint about why. If it says nothing then it might be the line in power having the issue.
