PO's weird fixes- clear tube?

Since removing walls etc in my AS I have been finding the very odd fixes and 'improvements' one of the POs did to my 76 tradewind. In the front top compartment he has a 1" clear tube fixed inside and it runs down the wall into the floor and out the belly pan. He has a nylon rope in the tube the entire length tied up at the top. What on earth would this be for? Seemed like he intended on pulling something through but what? The only thing in the top compartment is a radio and an antenna booster along with a zillion wires for who knows what. This guys 'fixes' are killing me. :/

Air conditioner drain? Maybe he would pull the cable tv coax up there from outside ? Just guessing.

I struggle with trying to figure this guy out on a daily basis! :/
I guess my real question is if it's not used and no one can figure it out, can I remove it and plug the pan hole? I want to get back to the simplicity of the AS but all these 'extras' are a hindrance.

Does your "76" Tradewind have a clock and thermometer in the front overhead cabinet. Our "74" has both of these and also a black tube running in the same location. My understanding is that it is for the thermometer. Not sure why the cord running through it unless PO was going to pull a new temperature sensor and hook to the thermometer. Just a guess...

Yes, my '72 had 2 tubes too. One of them had the thermometer wire running through it. The other had the break wires running through. I removed the thermometer run/tube, and kept the break wire tube. Also ran my new ground wire through it to the frame, since all of my electronics are now located up front.

Maybe the PO pulled something out of the tube and had the foresight to pull the rope in. I case he wanted to use the tube for something in the future. What does it hurt?

It never amazes me what I see and don't see in other people's work. I am sure there was a good reason to run the tube the way the PO did. My guess is he/she had intentions to run something through it at a later time and never got around to it. If you don't like it remove it and move on... if you think you might use it leave it and see how it all works out in the end!

That is where the temperature sensor lead used to run for the indoor/outdoor thermometer that was in the front overhead console. With the cord being in there I suspect the PO pulled it out but had the foresight to leave a fish line in place. That is a factory install not a hack.
