Parts

How hard is it to get parts for 20-year-old coaches? Other than body, any proprietary parts?

What sort of parts are you talking about? Most of the stuff as far as appliances are standard RV stuff. Some structural components are available from the factory.

If it's for Airstream not a problem

Thanks. I saw a coach advertised that sounds like it might fit us, but it has been parked for 15 years in Florida. I suspect that replacing axles and brakes will be necessary. I wondered how difficult it would be to get them.

Greetings David!

Axles and basic running gear parts are readily available -- even for 50+ year old Airstreams -- Hydo-Vac disk brakes from the 1970s may be one exception.

We've drop shipped complete axle assemblies all over North America & beyond, plus there are other suppliers out there. Be very wary of an Airstream that has been parked in Florida for that amount of time. Depending on where in the State it has been sitting, there may be serious chassis rust issues. As the bellypan contains the chassis & insulation, it tends to retain moisture & humidity causing rust.
Good luck with your search.

Thanks, Colin. The location was a big red flag for me, and we're not ready to buy now anyway, but that one made a good example.

What has prompted my reappearance here is finding out that Foretravel used a proprietary shaft in an otherwise standard hydraulic pump, and that has left us parked for two weeks. If it hadn't been for a mechanic friend we would have had to wait until March (!) for a replacement. I wondered if Airstream does something similar.
