Part for Zip Dee Awning

The release on the awning came off when I went to roll up the awning. I was able to use pliers (actually side cutters) to pull the spring-loaded rod to release the catch. I assume that these catch assemblies can be removed and replaced - am I correct in my assumption? Do I have to get them directly from Zip Dee (I'm camped in AZ now), or is this something I can get from an AS dealer? What is involved in replacing these catches?

The entire assembly just unscrews from the side of the square tube. Dunno if a dealer would have it or not, zip dee would be able to get you one.

Here is a parts breakdown I found on Zip Dee's website

http://awningsbyzipdee.com/media/19b...08ffffd523.pdf

Based on this, I see that it is part number 290002 (Snap Stud Assembly). What I don't know is how is this attached to the square tubing - is it screwed into an already tapped hole?

Good! Now to find out where I can get them. I'm an hour west of Tucson, so maybe Lazydays would have them. I'll have to phone Zip Dee tomorrow morning.

If you go to their site, there's an 800 number for them. Their phone parts order service is superb, and they will make sure you get the exact part you need.

Part arrived from Zip Dee and it was easily replaced. I noticed that the original "knob" was hexagonal, while the new one is slightly wider and thicker and is knurled. BTW, the part is about $10. The ratchet ones are $14. I bought two of each, so I have spares (the awnings are original 1987).

I don't think that lock on that pull thingy have ever worked on mine. I just hold it out with one hand and push with the other. I do see a crack in yours where the hold back pin should be.

Perry, there are two different latches. One just has the round pin that fits into the hole, called a snap-stud assembly (p/n 290002) which costs about $10 and the other is called a ratchet stud assembly (p/n 290001) which costs about $14. The ratchet stud assembly has the pin in it to align the ratchet, which you feel when you snug up the rafter arm bar. The knobs in the photo that have the crack in them are the snap stud assembly.

Everything is working fine now - we do need the awning these days, as it is warm and sunny here in the Sonora Dessert in Arizona
