Parking Airstream?
I have an issue:
I am picking up my airstream this weekend.
I thought I could park it in front of my house on the street.
I guess I cant, there is an ordinace where I live that I can only park it in the same place no longer than 48hrs.
My driveway is not that deep...I have a car port.
Its a 68...so I need to work on it...
the only other way is to keep it in a friends yard...but then I have to either drive three blocks or walk to go work on it..
Any other suggestions.

While our Safari lives in our driveway, the Caravel lives with our friend up the street. During the restoration, all the neighbors got used to us walking up and down the hill with various tools, Home Depot bags, etc. We were very fortunate that our friend let us store Airstream parts in his garage and shed, (and bought beer for us to drink while working.) It worked out just fine for us. If you decide to park the trailer at your friends, buy a pedometer - you'll be amazed how quickly you rack up steps going back and forth.

Sounds like you need an Air port instead.

Can you raise the roof on your carport or otherwise make it Airstream friendly?

Yes, we have courtesy parking for you. About an hour North of Los Angeles.

If you buy 5 acres out in the country zoned Ag or rural residential, you can park your Airstream on the land.
If a neighbor complains about the Airstream, just start building a hog pen next to the neighbors property line / house... and tell them you plan on operating a huge hog farm.
You'll not hear another peep about your Airstream being parked there.

How much higher is the trailer than the carport? Is is possible to do something to get the trailer lower to fit? If a neighbor is willing to let you put it in their yard for the rebuild period it may just be worth the extra walking. You get your daily recommended exercising done (and more, likely) and fewer hassles with City and other neighbors, etc.

You're in Ann Arbor? Our community and so many others seem to have restrictions about parking anything on an unpaved surface. The objective is to keep people from parking junker cars and leaving them sit. They tried to crack down 2 years ago and caused so much outcry that people were given a year to comply. Our local law enforcement now has gotten quite severe in citing boat or utility trailers not parked on a pad.

I wouldn't park either of my vintage trailers on the street even if I could. There's an accident or theft waiting to happen. I think the suggestions about the carport are a good idea, but walking three block may be a good deal in the Spring and Summer. I am lucky that I can park what I want where I want on my property. Living in small town Oklahoma has its perks. No one here questions what you do with your property as long as you aren't attracting wee beasties with food and shelter.

Is there any space beside the car port at all? That's where I put mine. I was able to take out the grass and put in a gravel driveway. I pull up in the main driveway and then jog to the side of the carport and park her there. Works out well and the neighbors love seeing here there. They are always dropping over to see the latest project.

I like the parking variance idea. However, I used to keep mine in the front yard and BB gun vandalism and 6500 in damage to the aluminum panels ended that real quick. Now I keep it at the dealer for 40 a month.
I guess you are doing a restore? Is there any way to get it into the back yard? That would not work for easy access, but the trouble might be worth it for a restore.

Get a secured spot
Rent a spot in a secured lot or machine shed. Considering the investment a secured spot is worth it.

I found a place to park...For free
I friend of mine has a commercial space that he is letting me use. The upside is that he has a huge warehouse and a commercial dumpster...so I can get rid of anything I will need there, I can store my tools and bring things inside that need to be refurbished and I have access to electricity...all for free
His place also has someone there 24x7 so I dont have to worry about someone just rolling off with my trailer.
Thank you to everyone who responded.

That's fantastic! (Okay, but I'm a little jealous of the setup, too. )

Our AS would not fit in the driveway parking space formerly occupied by our wee little T@B trailer, so the AS lived in the street in front of the house. Fortunately we are at the end of a cul de sac with very little traffic except for sight seerers. There are no ordinances in town other than winter parking bans that take effect in December to allow the snow plows to clear the street.
What to do for winter parking? After many arguments with my DH who wanted to clear cut huge oak trees to carve more parking spaces out of the landscape of our wee little suburban building lot, he finally agreed to park the AS on the vacant building lot we owned on the other side of town.
The neighbors in that neighborhood have all built their mcmansions and we now have our starter home, a shiney Airstream sitting on our lot! As we told the neighbors who frequently ask when we plan to build when they saw the trailer - ya got to start somewhere!

If you can find an indoor spot with electricity - I'd suggest that. In my novice experience, everything takes longer than I plan and is more difficult than I thought. So, when I show up and think I have a one hour repair, it sometimes takes four. In the winter in Michigan, I think to have a nice indoor spot with electricity to work would be nice. But, I understand the costs.
Another idea is the variance or exemption but it is likely that if you were not blocking the street to the extent folks couldn't get past, one of your neighbors complained - and will keep complaining until you are miserable.
Think of this as just one more challenge in the pursuit of your dreams.

Get a golf cart, build a bed to carry your tools and equipment, and drive the golf cart to the trailer.
It's fun, easy, simple, and an excuse to buy another toy.

Aluminati, Illuminati, Katzenjammer
Ask your cousins, the Illuminati, to make Ann Arbor welcome your Airstream anywhere.
The Illuminati rule the world, so they can make your carport fit the A/S, or give you more parking space.
