Paint baby moons and rockguard

Tired of looking at rusty hubcaps and yellow rockguard. Can I paint both? Any tips?

Hi,

I can't speak to your rock guard... but, we just had our baby moons re-chromed. The previous owner had painted them and they were dull even though he used a silver paint and we could still see the rust. We took them to St. Louis Plating and I think they came out pretty darn good for the condition they were in and being from 1959. Just picked them up yesterday, so no photo yet, but I can get one later today. The places on the moons that were too pitted or rusty are a bit bumpy, but they look 1000% better. We paid $50 a moon and we're extremely pleased. We did price shop and that seems to be the going rate in our area.

If you didn't want them silver, I am sure they could be powder coated too.

Thanks Tina. Maybe we will look into someone to re-do professionally. I have seen pics of people painting the rims and leaving the hubs shiny. I kinda like that look. As far as the rockguard, it should really be replaced so I don't think I could make it any worse. Will take your advice on the hubcaps. Those I don't want to ruin.

Here you go...

Donna,

Here are photos of the baby moons. The "texture" around the edge lines is where the corrosion couldn't be cleaned up any better and it's chromed too. We would like to have our rims done, but that will need to wait until winter. We were looking at it recently and they aren't really painted, but coated by previous owner with some sort of undercoating goop.

Good Luck!

Tina

Those hubcaps are sharp! Love the design - really nice, and worth preserving!
