Hello from Lake Havasu City
Well the demo on my 1977 Caravanner
continues and the Pack Rat mess just seems to be multipling. My new approach to this Restoration Project can be summed up by this ???
How do you eat an Elephant ??? 1 small Bite
at a time .. So here we go
My bites are going to be about a 4ftx4ft square at a time. The first one was the Main Water Tank
area. The tank was supported by a belly pan and bolted to the main frame in the front half of the AS. After removing most of the bolts I remembered that the tank still had water in it. (maybe 20 gal x 8lbs= 160lbs) Oops... The PO sealed the drain area so the tank couldn't be emptied. So the heavy tank & pan were lowered with the ole car jack.
What a mess those critters can make.. The pump and the tank warmmer hoses were chewed up.
There's a hole in the tank and all the insulation and prode wiring was destroyed too.
And the Rat Remains
was a suprise too..
No wonder the pooped so much....
Well after cleaning up everything, that Bite
Now the next Bite...
I didn't want to remove the Belly Pan
so I decided to remove two 4x4ft sections of the floor and clean the pan from the inside of the trailer. These 2 sections would be replaced with a new sheet of marine plywood and 2in foam insulation. The seams are under the curb-side sofa & refridgerator and the other side is under the sink, stove and cabinets. This new sub-floor would be covered with a Laminated Cork Floor.
(Ok back to reality that's another Bite...
When they (Pack Rats) decide to set up house they bring anything and everything that they can carry home. And destroy anything in the way..
The beer can in the picture is to show how deep the crap
After a hour or so of cleaning, a trash can full of crap
was all that was
left of Home Sweet Home...
With a little bleach & elbow grease this area will be good as new...
I'm sure the next few Bites will be the same but...
