Numbers on the front of AS?

I see a lot of pictures of airstreams with large numbers on the front above the window. What are those for or what do they represent?

They are the Wally Byam Caravan Club International (WBCCI) member numbers. Join and you will get some.

IMHO: The big red numbers on the end caps make the Airstream look like a rental unit and when they have "ghosted" or etched into the finish it becomes obvious you own a second-hand/pre-owned trailer. Attempts to cover or remove a previous owner's unique membership ID are rarely successful.

I will have attended 20 rallies with the club before the end of the year. They have many national caravans and the rates to go on them are much better than you can find anywhere else. All the caravan leaders are volunteers and know the routes well. Meals and places of interest are booked in advance. There are many local, regional and one international rally each year. Its a good way to meet, in person other like minded Airstreamers and to have a great time.
Keep the shiny side up.

Number Please

Ours sits in an envelope. Our dealer told me a better idea. She told me that some mount the numbers to a plastic board and hang it from the front window when reaching a campsite.

The big red numbers are the owner's WBCCI Memebership Number. If you see blue numbers, they are the owner's Airforums membership niumber.

Numbers can also be found that stick to the trailer through static electricity. These can be taken off when you get home if your worried about etching the finish. For me it's a small price to pay to belong to an organization that has led to so many lifelong friendships and some truly memorably times. George.
