Noises refrigerator fan

We have a 2016 25' rear bedroom. Because the microwave is above the fridge, a fan was installed at the factory behind the fridge for ventilation. The fan is very noisy. Any suggestions?

To explain the previous pictures..
Rubber isolated mounts
Adjustable temperature control for fan
And insulated the "box walls" around the microwave that act like a megaphone and amplified the fan noise.

Welcome to the forum!

Not sure if the existing threads cover your configuration of a noisy fridge fan, but you might want to check them out:

Thanks so much for your replies. I think airstream has a poor design. Irritating noise when all else is quiet. I am going to start with the rubber mounts and go from there. Great ideas. Thanks again.

Thanks Michael, not sure about the fan's specs/model number. I noticed you got it at Radio Shack?

http://www.airforums.com/forums/f425...ml#post1612200

Could you please tell us exactly what it is? Looks like "FLX" at the end of the model number . . . Guess you added that On/Off switch to the right of the fan, and taped a simple thermometer at the back of the space?

Thanks,

Peter

Ditto to above. We have the same model trailer as you and here is our quiet replacement fan.

However I can tell you propping the hatch lid open will cool the compartment better than fans.

I wonder if fridge would vent better if Airstream cut the upper vent higher up so there is more space between the condenser and the top of the box then install a curved insulated baffle that meets the top of the vent frame.

Noises refrigerator fan

Peter, this one is not RS, that one burned up. Got this one from Amazon on the recommendation of several here. And yes I added the switch.

But this leaves the space open to insects IMO . . . as the doors have screening on their backsides . . .

Thanks Michael for the fan specs.

The late models do have screens, earlier ones (our 2012) do not. The fridge compartment is sealed from the Airstream interior, the louvers are barely large enough for air flow, the screens may restrict it more. We prop open the doors for best compartment cooling.

Never had a bug problem in the compartment, none. But then most of our travel is in cooler months and dryer western climate.

Thanks Doug, yes propping up the door works great. I also think that the fan sets up a vibration somewhere such that it sounds louder inside the trailer than it does standing right next to it outside. One poster on another thread actually suspended their fan on some nylon monofilament, which would prevent the vibration I think happens with a hard bolted/screwed connection. Maybe some acoustic dampeners to be added like the water pump feet? TBD

Thanks again,

Peter
