Newbie and leaking living room.

Hi all,

I am new here. Never owned an airstream. Unit is great but had a bad smell in the living room.

Spent the day pulling up carpet in the sofa area removing the sofa and found water damage to to right of the sofa near the small window next to the door.

Smells better. Seems that some water damage occurred around the battery box enclosures in the front. Looks like a bad design to me.

Anyone with any repair thoughts based on the description?

Thanks!

It would be helpful to know the model and year of your trailer to be specific about advice. The leak could be coming from the window directly above the area in question. It could also be coming from any number of areas. You may have to use a process of elimination by repairing the usual culprits until the leak is found and fixed. Any penetration in the skin (window, vent, light, rivet or seam) can be a source of water ingress. The trick is to figure out which one(s) is the culprit.

Turns out I had 2 different leaks with similar areas affected. One was the skylight in LR. Water ran to small window by door around chair storage cabinet. No damage to floor and removed all carpet in entire front. Other place was around right battery box after towing for many miles in very heavy rain. Sealed both battery boxes and installed new Maxim skylight. All dry. Now just doing the routine sealing of seams, rivets, belt and windows etc. I have removed any carpet around perimeter and that makes for easy checking. Battery box was easy to see problem. Skylight was a bit more of a challenge. Maxim is a beautiful replacement. And moisture meter is a good investment.

I have a 1995. During the recent 10 days of hard rain, I had an ever so small leak by both battery boxes. I had recently sealed around the tops and sides of both boxes, so ruled that out. During a hard rain, I laid down the gaucho and watched the area. It seems the water was coming from around the screw that holds the door straps to the frame. I made rubber gaskets out of inner tune and put under each acorn nut. I covered the whole nut in a coat of Goop. The area was dry the next rain.
