New to Airstream......

Hello,
I’m New to Airstream and Travel Trailers in general. I just purchase a 196? Airstream That has been buried in waste deep grass for a decade. I plan on gutting and restoring in my parents back yard. My budget is $500. I’m going to rent the trailer as a AirBnB once complete.......................

I hear this story ALL the TIME on the Forum. Does this ever work???

Post your pictures and success stories here.

You won’t do much of anything for $500. Is that a typo?

If by "work" you mean turning a complete trailer into a gutted mess, and then reselling as a "clean slate ready for your custom interior," then, yes, I see examples of how this works quite frequently.

I am sure there are examples of actual success along these lines, though. I recall Forums member Continentsco, where they did the "pre-midlife crisis" thing, hunted around for a viable Airstream, bought one from the early 80's with a poorly repaired subfloor, worked on a fairly extensive (though not a shell-off) repair and rebuild of the trailer over about 6 months, then sold their house and excess possessions, and spent the next ~year touring the western US in their trailer. Not sure their plans to subsist on hipster jobs as baristas and micro breewery beer tasters panned out, but the trailer aspect of their adventure seemed to work.

IMHO, it’s still true that, “everyone is someone else’s weirdo.”

Lord knows I’m a fine example at times.
