new owner with questions

I'm a new owner of a 64 overlander. Towed home 500 miles last fall, no problems. Very happy with trailer, of course there's a few things I would like to improve.

I also have a few questions for the overlander experts. 1) How is the black water tank held in place and what is it made out of? Mine appears to be fiberglass. 2) Did these trailers come with any 12v fuses? I can't seem to find any. 3) Do any you have the odd window frames? If so where can I find new glass to frame seals? Are there any suppliers for the cranks and extension arms?

Fuses are probably in the Univolt in your trunk. Behind a wing nut I think?

All window material can be found at Inland RV or other vendors found on this site.

Can't help you with the tank.

Vintage Trailer Supply is a good source of parts, give them a yell.

Send a message via Yahoo to overlander64
new owner with questions

Greetings biopig!

Welcome to the Forums and the world of '64 Overlander ownership!

The blackwater tank is, indeed fiberglass and is mounted below the toilet between the frame rails. There is a galvanized steel box that it rides in that is held to the frame with steel strapping (at least that was the case with my '64 Overlander).

The 12-volt fuses were monted behind an access panel on the old Univolt found in the streetside corner of the One-Stop-Service-Compartment (rear trunk). It has been a few years since my original Univolt was replaced, but I seem to remember that it was a rather large dark green box behind the battery/shorepower switch with the red reversed polarity light. If your original Univolt has been replaced -- the first place to look would be the replacement power converter -- to see if it has fuses behind a panel. Should that prove futile, you may be looking for a needle in a haystack.

Unless your coach's windows have been replaced, or were a custom order feature, they should be a standard Hehr model utilized in virtually all '64 Airstreams. The new replacement weather seals have a somewhat different appearance when compared to the original factory items -- they do seem to seal better, however. There are at least two sources for the necessary seals and gaskets - - - Vintage Trailer Supply and Inland RV.

The window crank gearboxes can be a bit more difficult to locate, although availability seems to be better today than it was nearly eight years ago when much of my coach's refurbishment was completed. You may be able to find these gearboxes at a local shop that supplies parts for older mobile homes (often found in larger college communities where I live). You can also check with Vintage Trailer Supply and Inland RV.

Good luck with your Overlander!

Kevin

Welcome to the '64 club! You will want to read this thread here, all about the Mystery '64 windows that I have, and it looks like you too. The good news is some of the parts you are looking for are available.

When you read through the thread I referenced, you will see that Frank of Franks' Trailer Works may have some windows for your '64 available. I also covered these windows on my blog as well, which you can find by following my signature below.

Thanks for the fast response everybody. My windows are all the odd style, The PO used screen clips on the outside to hold the windows shut. Any idea's on the glass to frame gasket. VTS can get it but you have to order a complete roll. Thanks again, Silva

Kevin, thanks for all the good info. When it worms up here I'll take a closer look for the uni-volt. The reason I asked about the black tank is mine looks like its just resting on the galvanized sheet metal skin. Doesn't look like theirs anything holding it in place. Thanks
