I would guess it's a crank for a jack or an awning.

Yes...Very similar to the one we have for our H&H power jack. If you lose 12VDC, or the power head fails this makes raising or lowering much easier.

If the trailer power totally fails, or if the jack motor dies, or if the jack head for whatever reason fails to work, remove the jack head that's held in place with a couple of allen screws, then it's obvious which end of that handle fits into the slotted drive shaft of the electric jack.
Then, crank away.

Just amazing what shows up on this site...
Just yesterday I found this same *handle* in my trailer. Gettin' her ready for a weekend trip. I had suspicions that it was for the tongue jack. But, when I took it around to the jack, I sure didn't see how/where it fit so I just put it back in my bin, shaking my head.
Soooo, Andy says to remove the "jack head". Is that just the cover of the motor? Here's a pic of what I have... can someone detail what comes off to use the manual crank for my tongue jack?

If you were to take the cover off, I believe you will find a "slot" for the handle in the top of one of the gear shafts.

Hi Laura,
I have attached a pdf of a manual for the H&H Super Power Jack. Hope this helps.
Now I just wish I had one of those handles. There wasn't one in my Excella.

Just to be on the safe side, I taped the appropriate size allen wrench to my crank. With my luck, I wouldn't have the correct size in my tool box the one time I'd need to get the cover off to use the crank. A good hardware store will sell individual individual wrenches.

Laura.
Remove the complete rectangular box that's on top of the jack post. That will allow you to see and use the jack post threaded screw.

Hi again,
I started poking around looking for a handle. Didn't find one, but I did find a newer pdf manual for the jack. No hand drawn diagrams in this one.

My cover seems to be permanently stuck on. My DH couldn't even get it off (my last resort--pride & all). It's making suspicious clicking noises & I wanted to check it out. Would hate to be stuck w/o the ability to raise/lower the trailer! Guess what I got for my b-day? A new one! I'll post up here again after I get it installed & someone can have my old crank. Hope you never need to use it!

Thanks for posting the original question and thanks to all who responded. I, too, found the handle and guessed that was the purpose for which it was intended, and the manual will be of value.
