Need to replace Thermostat

I think the thermostat in my trailer is shot. I have to turn it to full heat before the furnace kicks in. Once the trailer warms up and the furnace shuts off, it cycles on and off every 30 seconds.

Do i need a special type of rv thermostat, or can I go to HomeHardware and purchase a household type?

You should have a simple mechanical thermostat, before you go and buy a new one, open it up and see if the foam pad has become sticky and it causing the parts to stick. I had this issue with mine, I just removed that old pad, and cleaned up the sticky pieces and it works great.

If it is the mercury bulb type. It should be close to level to work properly.
Just a basic thermostat from the hardware store will work.
You don't by chance have a window open and the draft is causing the short cycling?

My 2001 used a mercury bulb thermostat. I replaced it with a digital Hunter that I bought from Walmart. Cost was less than $20 back at that time. Thermostat was a great improvement over the factory installed unit. Like my current Classic the thermostat was installed on a wall that was common with the refrigerator compartment. The hole for the wiring passes into the compartment which leads to air leakage. Especially if you operate the bathroom vent or stove vent fans. This leads to frequent cycling of the HVAC equipment. Be sure if you replace the thermostat to make sure that hole with the wire is sealed. I used a dab of silicone to help. Note that my Hunter did have an adjustment to control the spread in which the thermostat operates with. Some call that the maintenance band. This allows you to adjust up and down, the threshold in which the thermostat calls for heat or cooling. This allows you to compensate if the equipment is activating too quickly.

Get a new normal household thermostat with a battery in it. Those types (with battery) are universal and will work on the 12 volt Airstream thermostat control system. They have an internal relay which does the actual switching. They are not level sensitive. In general the AS wires will connect to the Red and white terminals on the new thermostats.

The thermostat will have a "heat-cool-off" switch. You will be using the heat and off portions.
