Need an Explanation of Water Damage

I read the following post in the Air Forums and I can't visualize the problem.

"Rot in Airstreams is very common at the back where a plate that that holds the lid to the rear bumper storage is attached. "

The person who posted this statement said this issue was a problem until recent years. Could someone explain this water leak issue to me? Secondly, could someone tell when Airstream resolved this issue?

Thanks in advance.

I used Google to help me find an explanation, which was a thread in this forum.

This thread provided all the information I needed and include pictures, which really helped to understand the issue and the solution. I apologize for bothering people with this matter.

Traxless, thanks so very much for this thread. I discovered 3 large leaks under the dinette in my 2008 27FB last week. I have read countless threads to tackle this problem. I've taken it to two different places and neither has been able to find and stop the leak. It's time for me to now take matters into my own hands. The link you included in your thread is perfect. I'm going to learn how to tackle this myself.

Again, many many thanks!

Kds

Shiny Beast has a trunk and there are no seals on the lid which allows water to get into the trunk and rust out the cross member behind the grey and black tanks. I plan to add a vinyl strip from the underside of a garage door across the top of the hinge and a thin silicone seal around the outside edge.
Hope this helps.
