Need a quick answer .... 75 Excella 500

I have been working on a 1975 Excella. I have had friends make me an entirely new frame. IT LOOKS GREAT ... I am ready to put the ply wood on. I have all new "C"-Channels for Ends and Side. I have the tanks in place, wheel cover ...

What I remember about taking the trailer off was the "C" Channel was bolted to the out riggers. And I guess that the Out Riggers are the Final Width of the trailer ? 91"-92" I dont remember off hand, need to measure.

OR

Does the trailer/Coach come out past those out riggers just a 1", 1/2" ???

What is the width of the floor ? I know its not 96" I know I need to cut the ply wood. Anyone know what they had for width ?

Thanks

Thanks.... the 92" is about right. I got the answer from out of doors mart...the tech knew exactly what I was talking about and that I had to bolt the channels to the further most edge of the outriggers on frame

Thanks again....

Photos coming soon

Believe me..."about right" won't cut it. You are in for an arduous job of fitting the shell to the floor and C channel. Go slow to do it right. The door area and curved corners will be a job. Did you do any shell bracing at all? that would have helped a lot without measurements.

On my unit, I found that although the intent was most likely for it to be aligned with the edge of the outriggers perfectly, the factory had missed getting the c-channel aligned exactly with the edge of the outriggers on a several of them by a half inch or more (or completely in a couple of cases!). This made me feel actually a little better in that the trailer had lasted over 30 years without issue despite not having perfect alignment on the bolts/c-channel/outriggers.

Plywood Floor

I was told three years ago to cut 4" off a 8' piece of 3/4" plywood and use the 4" piece to secure the edges to the supports that are recessed for mounting the joints and it worked perfect for the length for my floor on my 72 Sovereign Land Yacht. Thought this might help.

I have a 75 Excella 500 that was given to me. I'm very curious about your frame and would love to ask you some questions about it, as I'm thinking about doing the same thing, but first can I take an inside measurement for you that would answer your question.

I know "ABOUT" is not going to cut it ... i will have to measure very carefully.
the taking 4inches off the play wood side does make sense for a 92" measurement. .... im not at the build so i will have to check all that.

I am fortunate enough to have staff and friends who helped me re create and exact frame but better. We copied the old frame and used the front section from old one and the axels. but everything else is all new steel. all new outriggers etc ...

When i lifted the coach off the frame the old frame finally gave way... but how We lifted it is ... we made a wooden ladder that was 25 feet long or so. and came down through the sky lights with chain hoist and lifted it up. the only bad part was we did not know there was a patch one one side that the original owner covered over and it had rivets still attached to the frame/channel ... once we found and removed them it lifted like a feather.

Update.... plywood going on new frame

I am starting in the front and working my way back to rear. I don't know the exact length of the end to end to pre cut the back piece of plywood yet. But I coated the floor with grey kill primer, then cut the front curve using new c channel as template, then cut inside the line just a bit. I cut about around the water tank hoses ( all new ) and the the wheels. I had a local havoc shop make me all new pans for water, black and grey tanks ($200 for all three) great deal.
I will secure the entire floor and channels except for the last piece. Then roll the frame under the coach and check fit, find the end point and use the other new curved c channel to scribe the ply wood....

Does anyone know exact end point length on 31ft ex Ecella ? How long are the straight sides ? 21 feet 8" or so ? I have all new c Chanel and could just drop coach on and install if I knew exact length ?

Here is photo of progress
