Your guess about road debris would be mine also. Semi truck tire tread makes sense to me due to what I can see.

Perhaps a passing vehicle tickled a road alligator and it hit your trailer.

That was the second part of my thought. Accounts for the "slap".

I went to get my John Deere mower out of the shed to compare how the tires might hit the trailer. He says the Xmark zero turn tires are different sizes than the John Deere lawn tractor. He has almost convinced me that he didn't do it and it was road debris. He says they don't get near the trailer with the lawn mower, but weed-eat around it. I got my weed-eater out of the shed to see if it would be possible to damage it with a weed eater. My conclusion was that a weed eater didn't do it. I even considered a wheel barrow while they were mulching beds.
They really might not have done it, but my very first thought was lawn mower, so I called him, he came over, and we talked about it.

I had a mystery dent similar to that. Whatever it was also caught the propane line at the water heater. I know it was road debris, cause it happened while I was traveling. I did not see anything or hear anything. It was just there when I arrived.

Thoughts on the mystery.

Most likely in order…

# 1 You ran over something. I didn't hear or feel it when I did.

#2 Lawn mower…There guy is not going to admit it after denying it.

#3 An animal, a little more than a foot tall, was running, and didn't see the darker bottom of the trailer. A deer ran into my truck….when I was standing still.

It doesn't matter how it happened, but it's fun to solve things How you feel matters. But how I feel matters more some how. ha ha. I am going to be happy for you that you didn't get hurt, and your
trailer didn't hurt enough to stop you from having fun with it. Whew…I feel much better.
