My first post. I just brought a Caravel.

I brought a 67 Caravel yesterday. It was kept in really good condition. It only has very small dent on one panel.

The interior is all original and in really good condition. Only the original vinyl tiles and some section of subfloor are bad.

I will have a lot of questions for you guys!

Welcome to the forums and ask away!

One note, those vinyl tiles are probably asbestos, so extreme care needs to be taken in their removal.

Post some pictures

Congrats and welcome. You can only ask questions if you post pictures :-)

No really - pictures are pretty much a must with an announcement like this! :-)

Yay! Congrats! I love my Caravel, and I think it has the perfect layout for a small trailer. It feels roomy inside, and cozy too!

Your Caravel looks awesome. I will try to keep it in the original form as much as possible. However, I found black mould and mildew on the accordion door. So I took it out and destroyed it the process, which I regret.

I guess an old school Pathfinder will handle it...
Congratulations on your beautiful trailer!

I worried that my Pathfinder couldn't handle it, but it made it from Indiana to Maryland. The underbelly aluminum panel came off on the high way though. I had to screw it to the subfloor using the long screw found to hold down the electrical panel on the same panel.

We got our '65 Caravel in 2000. We have towed it about 80,000, most with our '47 Chevy Street Rod.
I think Caravel is the best use of space of any Airstream.
Post the problem with the sub floor. The floor at the very rear of ours, under the back of the bathroom rotted away. I was able to replace it without removing anything from the inside. Caravels really like to gather water where the hinge for the bumper storage area meets the body. It will cause the bolts holding the rear of the shell to rust away causing separation. Bounce on your back bumper and be sure that the shell is firmly attached.
The other thing that caravels are famous for is broken axles. If the axle has not been replaced, replace it. Just a heads up.
I hope you get as much use and enjoyment from your Caravel as we have.
