Last weekend I finally changed the 5200lb rated outer wheel bearings and drums for the 6000lb rated combo. Also went from Chinese bearings to USA made Timkens.

The small outer bearings were the limiting factor in the rating according to Axle assembly manufacturer Dexter. Otherwise, the 5200 axle and 6000 axle are the same.

On our 5 year old 22FBs, Airstream down-rates a Dexter 5200 to 4500lbs.

So, while probably not necessary, I did it for peace of mind since there is only one on each side.

Do you notice any difference between the Michelin LTs and the new Goodyears?

Thanks,

So far, the new Goodyear tires are working just fine. I do run them with a little more air pressure than I could run in the Michelin LT’s though so I suspect the trailer is a little stiffer...
We won’t do any long trips again until late next year. We’ve put maybe 8000 miles on them so far.

Some great customizations! Thanks for continuing to share.
I installed the Goodyear Endurance tires this past April after I could not find Michelins in 15" anywhere. I guess we got lucky with the original Marathons on our 19' Bambi and ran them all over the country for years with no issues. So far the Endurance are fine, but I might reconsider an upgrade to 16" wheels and Michelins later for our retirement tour of Canada and Alaska.
