Microwave Cabinet Latch

This week we arrived to our camping destination to find cabinet on our 2015 27FB Serenity, that holds the microwave wide open and the microwave about to fall out. We assumed that the cabinet was not latched before we left. Today, when we arrived to our next destination we found the cabinet open again and the microwave had fallen to the floor, damaging the floor and the microwave. Before leaving, we insured that the cabinet was securely closed and latched. I even insured that I had to push in the button on the latch before it would open. We were on very smooth roads today. No bumps at all! Has anyone out there had similar problems with the microwave cabinet?

Yes I have experienced the same problem which I attribute to rough roads. The microwave just sits in the cabinet unsecured. Mine had bounced around and the edge actually hit the latch opening the cabinet. Put a nice dent in the microwave!

I temporarily used some double sided 3M tape to hold it down, but finally put some jack nuts in the bottom of the micro and through-bolted it to the cabinet base.

Airstream needs to secure these better!

Microwave Cabinet Latch

Thanks mojo! I will have to buy a new microwave. This is one is destroyed. By the way, what is the purpose of the roller/controller that sits under the micro way, inside the cabinet?

It shuts off the power to the microwave when the cabinet is closed. You can here it "ding" on when you pull the cabinet out.

By the way I did contact Jackson Center about the problem and it sounds like they are installing some kind of pad at the top of the cabinet to keep the micro secure when the cabinet is closed.

Our cabinet has double doors ane we use on of the big plastic locks between the handles. Also a spring loaded curtain rod across the front of the microwave about 1" up and behind the cabinet face frame incase we forget to latch the door. Latch the pantry, latch the microwave is the last check on the way out.
