Maxim Skylights on 2011-2014 27FB

Has anyone installed Maxim Skylights on a late model International 27FB (I have a 2013)? Getting conflicting information from several sources that the "curb" was changed on this model after the 2010 model year. I know Airstream went to the 2 sided tape to secure the top layer of the skylights vs the use of screws but did they really change the curb and how these skylights mount?

Maxim states their standard sizes, 22.5" x 22.5" & 17.5" x 26" will fit models up to 2010 but are unsure on model years 2011 - 2014.. I have measured the skylight openings and they do match those sizes but again I have heard that the curb changed and the Maxim skylight will mount differently..

Really want to install these for both the insulation properties and future leak protection..

Thanks in advance for any feedback..

Can you get us some pictures of your curb?

Ok.. Not sure if these photos will help.. 2 are of the photo's are of the front skylight / 2 of the rear skylight... Both skylights appear to have the same style curb..

I really don't want to remove them until i have replacements..

Let me know what you think .. Many thanks..

They appear the same to me, but take the measurement of the curb length and width through the existing skylight. Call Maxim with the dimensions for both lites and they will make them with the proper clearance.

Well, I will bet you could very easily shim the difference... and seal the area quite easily. We love our Maxims.

This must be a Maxim day since I spoke with David this morning for my 95 Excella. I will take measurements in the morning and will order in the afternoon.

Did you find that the curb is the same on the newer models?

There shouldn't be a problem. But.........you must measure for yourself to ensure yours is t "unique"

I guess the question is whether the curb is different for a mounting method, not so much the size. But I have no idea. Perhaps Maxim knows...

What appears different is that the plastic bubble goes all the way to the roof. That is different! I still cannot measure so can't tell you your dimensions.

I measured carefully at the top and the dimensions are the same, 22.25 x 22.25. The Maxim 22.5 x 22.5 will fit fine and I have ordered it. I cannot see that the installation on my 2012 will be any different than earlier models except that my OEM is taped not caulked. The clearance between the AC shroud and the skylight gives me some concern for drilling but I will try some self-drilling screws with a right angle drive on my driver.

Larry,
The Maxim folks will make yours to fit. no worries.

I also used the 'self drilling/tapping' screws with neoprene washer. There is also a slightly cupped washer between the head and neoprene to keep the washer 'captured'. Over a year zero issues.

Mine is installed, but I will simply offer this piece of advice which was in another thread. Do not do this project by measuring your curb from the top of the existing skylight. You must remove the old one and measure not only on the top of the curb but at different vertical heights on the curb. Then have a new skylight fabricated with enough clearance.

So, do you recall the measurements? Maybe the folks with your year AS have similar curb measurements?

So,.. do you like them or too early to tell?

You will need 22 58" x 22 5/8" to fit, most likely. But here is the rub. AS puts welds on the curb corners and depending on the welder, those dimensions may or may not work. I had to file down welds and still had a fit problem. As I said the only way to be sure is to measure before you order.
The Maxim is far superior to the original but I had some fit problems that were partly their fault and partly mine. I am still in physical pain from the work I had to do yesterday. Ask me again in a month.
